The best Flooring for your Lifestyle

Posted on: July 25th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

SELECTING THE BEST FLOORING FOR YOUR LIFESTYLE

In this post, we highlight a few aspects to keep in mind when choosing hardwood flooring, including your lifestyle, budget and more.

  • Pet owners should consider modern vinyl and laminates for scratch-resistant wear and water-resistant or waterproof flooring.
  • Install waterproof or water-resistant flooring such as vinyl plank, tile, or sheet vinyl in rooms with high foot traffic.
  • Climate plays a part in certain floor materials, making an engineered option more suitable.
  • Replacing carpet with a hard flooring surface alleviates allergens.
  • Numerous flooring brands offer environmentally-friendly products for green-conscious households.
  • The subfloor can determine what type of flooring you can install and whether you need an attached pad or additional underlayment.

Do you have pets?

If you want to install hardwood flooring, one or two small pets won’t alleviate the option; but if you have large or multiple pets, you may want to consider a vinyl or laminate product. These floors have scratch resistant wear layers for durability that hold up to everyday wear and tear from your pets’ nails and playful activity. Modern vinyl and laminate floors have the same visuals as hardwood floors including distressed, wire brushed, and rustic wood styles, or earthy, natural patterns. So, you can still have the look you want; but the function that you need (and less worry about damage to your floors!).

Do you have children?

Consider the ages and activity level of your children. Are they active in sports and bring home muddy or heavy equipment every day?

If you have a dedicated area for those items, such as a mudroom or entryway, consider using a durable, waterproof or water resistant product for that space. If you think these items will make their way all over the house, you may want to choose a super durable, yet beautiful vinyl plank, tile or sheet product that will stand up to years of activity, for your entire home. Not only are luxury vinyl floors easy to clean and maintain; but the large range of color and style options available in realistic wood, stone and tile patterns will surprise you!

Do your family members have allergies?

Hard surface flooring is a much better choice over any carpet product to alleviate allergy symptoms and triggers. Hardwood, vinyl, and laminate products can be safely and thoroughly cleaned frequently with the peace of mind that there are no hidden dust mites or mold lurking beneath the surface.

Where are you installing your new flooring?

All Wood Floor Planet of flooring, including hardwood, can be used in any space in your home. It is the collections within each flooring type that offer the diversity of installation for basements, concrete slabs and/or less than perfect subfloor conditions.

Where do you live?

The climate in which you live can limit your hardwood selections. Avoid wide plank, solid only hardwood collections if you live in a very humid, southern region of the US. Although gluing and nailing these products can alleviate some cupping and crowning. An engineered option may be available in the same visual and will result in a much more stable installation.

With today’s options in flooring. It is very easy to find the look that you want with the functionality that you need.

Are you environmentally friendly?

Many families today take steps to recycle and bring reusable bags to the grocery store to promote a healthier earth. But when it comes to your home. Did you know you can choose a green-friendly flooring option?

Wood Floor Planet offers numerous flooring options from manufacturers who undergo strict procedures and rules to gain certification status. Some of the environmental commitments from our brands ensure that the wood is gathered from sustainable forests.

How to take care of my wooden floors

Posted on: May 5th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

How to maintain and clean my wooden floor

Wooden floors are elegant, beautiful and timeless and can last for decades if looked after properly. Most types of wooden flooring are reasonably durable and hardwearing. However, they will still need caring for and protecting from damage. Looking after any type of wooden floor is easy and straight forward if you follow the advice below.

How to maintain and protect my wooden floor

An important part of maintaining the beauty of any wooden floor is to protect it from unwanted damage. One of the most important things to remember is to wipe away any spills immediately.

The top layers of lacquer or oil will protect your floor initially, but if the liquid is left to soak into the wood then it can cause irreparable damage.

Another way to maintain your flooring is to protect it from scratches and dents. Small marks and indentations are inevitable, but there are things that you can do to prevent deeper, larger scratches.

Firstly, remove footwear before walking on your wooden floor. Outdoor footwear is likely to have dirt and grit on the bottom that can easily scratch your floor if walked on. Ideally leave shoes and boots in a porch, garage or cupboard, but alternatively you could have a door mat or shoe rack. If you notice any stones or grit on your wooden floor, remove them straight away.

You will also want to prevent furniture or heavy objects from scratching your floor. Always pick up heavy objects to move them, rather than dragging them across the floor.

You can use anti scratch felt protector pads. These can be applied to the bottom of furniture and act as a soft barrier between the wooden floor and heavy object.

How to clean my wooden floor

Cleaning your wooden floor is straight forward. All you need to do is sweep the surface of the floor with a soft bristle brush. We would recommend that you do this everyday to remove any small surface dirt or dust. You can also use a vacuum cleaner but will need to make sure that you have the correct attachments for a wooden floor.

Once your floor has been swept, you can then clean it to remove any surface stains or marks. This only needs to be done about once a week, or when you notice any surface stains.

To clean your floor, we would recommend using a microfibre mop and PH neutral cleaning spray. This will be gentle but effective on your wooden floor. Try to clean in the direction of the grain. You should never use furniture polish as this will leave a slippery residue. Also, never use a steam mop. The steam will penetrate into the wooden floor and can cause damage over time.

Can I sand and re-finish my wooden floor?

Yes, you can refinish your wooden floor. This can help to revive and refresh your floor and can remove unwanted marks and stains. There are a few options available, but they depend upon what type of floor you have and why you want to refinish your floor.

If your wooden floor has an oiled finish, and you want to reduce the look of small scratches then you can apply more oil to the floor. Firstly, you will need to thoroughly clean your floor. Then apply another layer of oil. This will need to be left to dry for the appropriate amount of time before replacing furniture and walking on it. It will brighten and refresh your wooden floor.

If your wooden floor has a lacquered finish, and you want to reduce the look of small scratches then you can lightly sand the surface and then apply more lacquer. The finished look will be a fresh and revived wooden floor.

If you have large, deep dents or scratches then you may need a deep sand and then refinish with oil or lacquer. For any type of refinishing, we would recommend using a wooden flooring specialist.

Top tips for maintaining and cleaning wooden floors

Wipe away water spills immediately.
Remove footwear before walking on your floor.
Use felt protector pads and never drag heavy objects across the floor.
Sweep away dust and dirt on a daily basis.
Clean your floor using a microfibre mop and wooden floor cleaning spray.
Never use a steam mop, wet mop, furniture polish or abrasive products.

Refinishing Hardwood Floors Advices

Helpful Hints for Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floor refinishing and sanding is unforgiving work. Make a mistake, and it will show. However, a refinished floor can bring beauty to a room like no other project.

Check out some helpful tips about how to refinish hardwood floors below.

Tips for Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Recoating hardwood flooring is an excellent choice for homeowners whether you’re renovating a single room or you want to breathe new life into all of the flooring in your home.

Let’s take a look at the top tips for how to refinish hardwood floors:

Be sure to prepare your home before sanding and refinishing wood floors:

Clear the area: You will want to remove rugs, furniture, and other items from the hardwood flooring area that you will be working on.

Thoroughly clean the sanded floor: You need to clear the entire floor of dust and debris before applying the new finish.

Secure floorboards: Use finishing nails to secure any loose floorboards before recoating your hardwood flooring.

Sanding your floors is one of the most critical steps to refinish hardwood floors because it removes the old stain and turns your entire floor into a blank slate.

Carefully apply polyurethane:

Many pros pour polyurethane along the floor and then spread it with an 18-inch lamb’s wool applicator, but this is likely to result in a layer that’s too thick for the novice. A better way for the do-it-yourselfer is to roll on the polyurethane using a foam roller, preferably a high-density foam roller.

The coat will be thin, even, and will quickly dry to a glassy smooth finish. Use a good brush for cutting in around the room perimeter.

Refinishing your floors?

Some jobs are better left to the pros. Get free, no-commitment estimates from licensed flooring contractors near you.

Everything you need to know about Hand-scraped Floors

Posted on: March 17th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

Hand-scraped Wood Floors

Hand-scraped wood flooring is an extremely popular wood flooring option with anyone seeking something just a little bit different.

Is hard to clean?

Even though the rough texture may hide defects, though, it provides crevices in which dirt can collect, so you may have a harder time keeping a hand-scraped floor clean.

Are floors sealed?

Just like that, you’ll have beautiful, weathered floors for your country home. Since hand-scraped hardwood comes with a durable, anti-scratch finish, you don’t have to worry about sealing or finishing the floors after installation.

Why do we scrape floors?

It is simply to texture the surface of the wood floor, like in the photo at right. Some people claim that scraping a floor makes it more interesting to the eye or complements certain styles. Some people hate it. There is a fine line between a beautifully; scraped floor and floor that looks like an accident.

The finish on hand-scraped floors suggest that the floor could have lived a previous life in a grand building or may have survived many years of traffic in a popular place, both of which add to its charm.

We provide useful advises to both suppliers and architects around the US territories from the time we have started in this business. We also take pride in providing hardwood floors in the Tri-State area for more than 25 years now!

Consider Laminate Wood Flooring: The eco-friendly choice

Posted on: March 15th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

The eco-friendly choice: Laminate Wood Flooring

Laminate wood flooring is a popular choice for environmentally conscious contractors and homeowners.

What is the best flooring that looks like wood?

Some popular alternatives to hardwood floors are laminate, vinyl, and ceramic tile. All of these can imitate the look of wood.

When it comes time to choose materials for your home project, your thoughts may turn to sustainability. Most homeowners love the look of wooden floors, but hardwood brings with it concerns of deforestation. What If you could have the look of hardwood, while still being kind to the planet?

Most laminate flooring manufacturers now explicitly point out how sustainable and eco-friendly this flooring option is and use it as a major selling point for their product.

Made from Sustainable Materials

There’s no need to harvest the raw materials to create laminate boards. So not only are natural resources not being depleted for its creation, there’s no need to ship hardwood from across the globe to your local flooring supplier.

No Harsh Chemicals

This is why laminate gets another point in the eco-friendly department since only gentle, natural cleansers are necessary to keep laminate looking its best year after year.

Laminate Doesn’t Contaminate The Air

Compared to other materials, laminate doesn’t contain any air-damaging chemicals and whatever chemicals that are in laminate tend to stay inside the board. This is because they are completely sealed from the outside which eliminates the possibility of any particles becoming airborne and affecting your health.

Eco-Friendly until the End

When the time comes to remodel and replace your old laminate flooring with new; this material continues to live up to its eco-friendly reputation. Floating floors are easy to remove without damaging the boards, allowing them to have a new life in another room.

When it’s time to remodel your home, consider laminate wood flooring, the eco-friendly choice.

Be Prepared to Stay Safe and Healthy in Winter

Posted on: February 18th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

Be Prepared to Stay Safe and Healthy in Winter

Winter storms and cold temperatures can be dangerous. Stay safe and healthy by planning ahead. Prepared your home and vehicles. Prepare for power outages and outdoor activity. Check on older adults.

Although winter comes as no surprise, many of us may not be ready for its arrival. If you are prepared for the hazards of winter, you are more likely to stay safe and healthy when temperatures start to fall.

Prepare Your Home

Staying inside is no guarantee of safety. Take these steps to keep your home safe and warm during the winter months.

Winterize your home

Install weather stripping, insulation, and storm windows.
Insulate water lines that run along exterior walls.
Clean out gutters and repair roof leaks.
Check your heating systems.
Have your heating system serviced professionally to make sure that it is clean, working properly, and ventilated to the outside.
Inspect and clean fireplaces and chimneys.
Have a safe alternate heating source and alternate fuels available.
If you do not have a working smoke detector, install one. Test batteries monthly and replace them twice a year.
Prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning emergencies.
Install a CO detector to alert you of the presence of the deadly, odorless, colorless gas. Check or change the battery when you change your clocks in the fall and spring.
Learn the symptoms of CO poisoning: headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.

Prepare Your Vehicle
Get your vehicle ready for cold weather use before winter arrives.

Service the radiator and maintain antifreeze level.
Check your tires’ tread or, if necessary, replace tires with all-weather or snow tires.
Keep the gas tank full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines.
Use a wintertime formula in your windshield washer.
Prepare a winter emergency kit to keep in your car in case you become stranded. The kit should include:
Cell phone, portable charger, and extra batteries;
Items to stay warm, such as extra hats, coats, mittens, blankets, or sleeping bags;
Food and water;
Booster cables, flares, tire pump, and a bag of sand or cat litter (for traction);
Compass and maps;
Flashlight, battery-powered radio, and extra batteries;
First-aid kit; and
Plastic bags (for sanitation).
Prepare for Emergencies
Be prepared for weather-related emergencies, including power outages.

Stock food that needs no cooking or refrigeration and water stored in clean containers.
Ensure that your cell phone is fully charged.
When planning travel, be aware of current and forecast weather conditions.
Keep an up-to-date emergency kit, including:
Battery-operated devices, such as a flashlight, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio, and lamps;
Extra batteries;
First-aid kit and extra medicine;
Baby items; and
Cat litter or sand for icy walkways.
Protect your family from carbon monoxide (CO).
Keep grills, camp stoves, and generators out of the house, basement and garage.
Locate generators at least 20 feet from the house.
Leave your home immediately if the CO detector sounds, and call 911.

Take Precautions Outdoors

Outdoor activities can expose you to several safety hazards, but you can take these steps to prepare for them:

Wear appropriate outdoor clothing: wear a tightly woven, preferably wind-resistant coat or jacket; inner layers of light, warm clothing; mittens; hats; scarves; and waterproof boots.
Sprinkle cat litter or sand on icy patches.
Learn safety precautions to follow when outdoors.
Work slowly when doing outside chores.
Take a buddy and an emergency kit when you are participating in outdoor recreation.
Carry a cell phone.

Do This When You Plan to Travel

When planning travel, be aware of current and forecast weather conditions.

  • Avoid traveling when the National Weather Service has issued advisories.
  • If you must travel, inform a friend or relative of your proposed route and expected time of arrival.
  • Follow these safety rules if you become stranded in your vehicle.
    • Make your vehicle visible to rescuers. Tie a brightly colored cloth to the antenna, raise the hood (if it is not snowing), and turn on the inside overhead lights (when your engine is running).
    • Move anything you need from the trunk into the passenger area. Stay with your vehicle unless safety is no more than 100 yards away.
    • Keep your body warm. Wrap your entire body, including your head, in extra clothing, blankets, or newspapers. Huddle with other people if you can.
    • Stay awake and stay moving. You will be less vulnerable to cold-related health problems. As you sit, keep moving your arms and legs to improve circulation and stay warmer.
    • Run the motor (and heater) for about 10 minutes per hour, opening one window slightly to let in air. Make sure that snow is not blocking the exhaust pipe—this will reduce the risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Be ready to check on family and neighbors who are especially at risk from cold weather hazards: young children, older adults, and the chronically ill.

If you have pets, bring them inside. If you cannot bring them inside, provide adequate, warm shelter and unfrozen water to drink.

No one can stop the onset of winter. However, if you follow these suggestions, you will be ready for it when it comes.

In Wood Floor Planet  we care about you.

The wonderful world of Wood and Floors

Posted on: February 15th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

World of Wood and Floors: Versatile Material

World of Wood and Floors: Wood it is used to produce beautiful furniture and works of art.

The wonderful world of Wood and Floors

Wood is a very versatile material. They are to produce beautiful furniture and works of art. Mahogany furniture has artwork made from wood with a higher price.

The interiors of the luxury liners of the Cunard line such as the Queen Mary and the QE2, which have been converted into hotel ships (the former moored in Long Beach in southern California and the latter in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates); are paneled with stately wood from the countries of the British Commonwealth.

The tradition continues on the new Cunard cruise ships, the Queen Mary 2, the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Victoria. Wood is very much in demand by the general public. If asked what kind of furniture they would prefer in their home or office, most people would answer, “Wood.”

Save the trees

However, this creates problems. With a global population of 7.6 billion and growing, the forests of the world cannot supply the increasing demand for timber.

The demand poses an ecological problem. There are more trees felled than replanted. And it must be taken into account that softwood trees such as cedar; cypress, and yew take some 80 years to mature; while hardwood trees such as teak, elm, and birch can take more than 300 years to grow to maturity.

Engineered wood to the rescue

That is where modern technology comes into play. It can fulfill the demand for wooden furniture, paneling, and works of art, as well as conserve the environment and stem the decimation of the world’s forests. The solution is the development of products that look like wood; feel like wood, and in many cases are even stronger and more durable than wood.

The demand for wood is strong. It is more oriented toward wood for practical purposes such as furniture parquet floors and internal staircases, as well as outdoor uses such as decks, rustic style roofing, and fences. With a climate like ours, the use of artificial wood is more practical.

So while having rich mahogany furniture or an attractive teak deck is enviable, one must consider preserving our forests and keeping our planet healthy and green.

Viable solutions

The wonderful world of Wood and Floors

The scientific world has risen to the challenge. Today, there are a large number of products such as parquet floors and decking for homes and marine vessels that are made from synthetic or engineered wood. These products look like the real thing and are much more practical. Synthetic parquet and teak floors are easy to maintain and clean, as they do not stain easily. And synthetic parquet floors are more adaptable to underfloor heating.

The wonders of synthetic wood

Wood is one of the most common natural materials. It is widely used because it is strong; relatively lightweight, and very easy to work with. Its strength and light weight are due to its unique hierarchical cellular structure and matrix (made from lignin and hemicellulose) embedded with well oriented cellulose fibrils. Wood grows very slowly from the bottom up, and each structural level contributes to its remarkable properties.

In recent years, genetic science has had a hand in improving the properties of wood and creating what is termed “super woods.”; This is achieved by modifying the micro structure of natural wood or combining wood-derived cellulose with synthetic materials. These biologically impressive materials are strong and durable.

One of the most promising developments is synthetically engineered wood. Plastic-wood composites have long been a favorite of homeowners who want to build decks and fences that do not require sanding, staining, and painting. However, these engineered woods are not as strong as natural wood and can be even more prone to catching fire.

Wood floor repair: 7 common damages on Hardwood

Posted on: January 29th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

Wood floor repair: 7 common damages on Hardwood

Wood Floor Repair: Are you having problems with your hardwood floors? See the 7 most common problems and how to solve each one.

Dry or peeling varnish

Over time it is natural for varnish or paint applied to wooden floors to dry out and look old or begin to peel. When this happens the solution is simple: remove the old varnish with a good sanding and apply new layers.

To avoid problems, it is preferable to use good brands and products with a longer shelf life. It is also good to carry out the cleaning indicated by the manufacturer in question, to guarantee the durability and protection of the varnish.

Scratched surfaces

On the surface of the floor they are also common, especially when you have children or pets in the house, and when the furniture does not have protection on the legs and is usually moved by dragging. These more superficial scratches are easily treated with sandpaper and new varnish application.

They can be treated in a timely manner, but it should be noted if only the scratched place is restored that there are no differences on the floor. If the varnish is too old to make the restoration and you want to have a homogeneous appearance, it is preferable to sand everything.

Scars, deep scratches and marks

On wooden floors they can also be restored with sandpaper. However, if those marks are very deep, more than the sandpaper can handle; or if the fibers of the wood chips have moved; it is better to opt for the replacement of the joint that compromises the structure of the floor.

Appearance

Wood can be aged after a few years of use and can suffer discoloration and dryness; resulting in marks and stains. These defects cause this often unwanted appearance of the wood, but it is possible to repair wood flooring with this problem as well. The restoration of the floor removes all the signs of time, applying a varnish will renew the visual.

Stains

Stains on the floor can be caused by something that has been spilled or some material that has been in contact with it. Some stains can be removed with the use of specific products without the need to repair wood floors in depth; but when they are permanent, restoring the floor by changing its color can help minimize them.

Discoloration

You can discolor wood that has been in contact with harsh chemicals or sunlight and heat. When the floor is discolored this color difference between the plates can be improved by changing the color of the entire floor by taking a paint. But if you prefer to keep the original flooring, replace the gaskets that have worn out.

Mold or rot

For both, what causes the problem is humidity. Do not leave the wood submerged or in contact with water. That the environment is ventilated and check if the humidity does not come from the floor. It is important to control these factors, because the only solution to wood rot is to replace the affected joint; but it will only work if the causes are addressed.

When you notice a problem and don’t know how to repair wood flooring; talk to the team of a specialized company to be sure how to proceed without damaging the wood in the restoration of the floor. At Wood Floor Planet we are ready to help you, we always provide our best service!

How to Match your Wall Paint Colors with your Hardwood Floor

Posted on: January 21st, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

How to Match your Wall Paint Colors

When it comes to redoing your home with all new paint, flooring or design themes, it can be confusing to figure out how to make your vision work with what you already have. On the flip side, it can be equally confusing to put together a brand new home where all of the different elements work together cohesively. Flooring, paint, countertops, cabinets and carpet can be a lot to mentally juggle!

If you find yourself in the middle of a home renovation or design; consider these tips in choosing the best flooring or paint to complement the other.

Consider the tone

Just like there are many tones and shades of hair color, there are many tones and shades of flooring. If you’re a fan of the ever-popular white walls; you should choose a white that either is warmer or cooler to match that same tone in your flooring, say the experts.

If you want to choose a color that is best suited for the kind of wood flooring (or laminate) you have; one guide says light hardwood floors work well with grays and off white.

They recommend white, sage, blues, dark red (as an accent) or a natural terra cotta color for homes with a cherry wood color and tone. For homes with dark hardwood, they suggest a light blue, light green, neutrals, white or grey. White and/or grey will create an elegant feel in your home.

For a red oak color or flooring with very warm tones; stick with yellows, apricots, and light blues to brighten the space up. Specialists suggests a light teal or grey with purple undertones — these colors help balance the warm tone of the floor.

A light flooring with warm undertones, like white oak,  should be paired with pastels or a charcoal color (for a more formal feeling).

Over 25 year experience and knowledge, we have the capacity to fulfill our clients investment and satisfaction on any wood floor installation project.

Wide plank floors are growing in popularity, know more about them…

The installation process

It is especially important to ensure fasten the planks correctly when installing wide plank floors. Plain sawn wide plank floors are more prone to moving in response to relative humidity changes, so you have to be extra careful when installing this type of flooring. Fastening these floors securely often entails using adhesive in addition to nails, even if you’re installing a solid wide plank floor.

When installing solid wide plank over a concrete slab, only adhesive is used to secure the flooring. It will benefit you to use an adhesive that has a moisture vapor barrier incorporated into the formulation; to keep out any moisture that will seep through the concrete.

Always be aware of the species and milling of the plank floor so you can avoid potential problems. For example, plain sawn hickory is a lot less stable than a quarter sawn American cherry, so it would be better to install cherry in an environment that is subject to significant fluctuations in humidity throughout the year.

Since you know a little more about the installations of wide plank, be sure to hire the best specialists in the area.

Hardwood Flooring Trends for 2021

Posted on: January 8th, 2021 by Carliuska Gonzalez No Comments

Hardwood Flooring Trends for 2021 – Wood Floor Planet

Hardwood flooring trends continues to grow in popularity, and it is by far the preferred flooring type for homes.

Not all colors work in all homes, and you also need to consider your overall decor theme (including paint color for walls and furniture), so choose something that you love…and anticipate you will love for a long time.

2021 Hardwood Floor Stain and Color Trends

Overall, there’s a shift towards darks and lights (yes, the two extremes), as well as cooler and browner tones. Redder and warmer tones are less popular and more polarizing.

Dark and cool toned hardwoods

Hardwood flooring trends for 2021. Yes, the trend towards darker colors keeps growing and growing. It’s been on the rise for the last decade or so. We seem to find two types of customers:

  1. Ones that prioritize style over maintenance and they tend to go darker and darker (these customers tend to be households without kids (either “pre-kids” or kids that have gone to college) or wealthier households that have extra help to keep the floors extra clean).
  2. Those that absolutely love dark floors, but want to go a bit lighter so that the floors are easier to maintain.

Gray and gray blends (including charcoals, greiges and brown/grays)

Gray flooring has been on the rise, and you can see it everywhere you go – in wood; tile that looks like wood, and gray vinyl planks that look like wood.

This trend started to notice and demand for gray hardwood flooring around 2010 or 2011 But it was only on pre-finished (or factory made wood), and it wasn’t until 2012 or so when I started to get lots of local customers ask us to refinish their existing floors and turn them gray.

Light, natural and muted

Hardwood Flooring Trends for 2021

Yes, on the opposite extreme to dark, the 2nd most popular floor choice is light – i.e. going natural. But the theme is a consistent one. There’s a preference to drown out the yellows and go for cooler tones. Hence those that are more up on the trends are going for the high grade and more environmentally friendly water borne polyurethane.

Whitewashed and lightly whitewashed floors

Whitewashes are back, and they’ve rapidly grown in popularity. For those of you who remember whitewashes from the 80’s, you’ll be happy to know that they’ve been reinvented and modernized.
